Following up on last week’s TNet article, the following link provides access to a panel discussion hosted by Scot Durward, Director, Operations & Woodlands HR, for the Women in Forestry Virtual SummitBranching Out: Cultivating Change in the Forest Sector.

The panel brought together a diverse group of leaders from across the forestry industry to explore critical issues of diversity, equity and inclusion within the forest sector. Nearly 800 people registered to attend the virtual summit that hosted attendees from at least 25 countries.

This diverse panel of women leaders was truly inspiring,” Scot said. “Their insights on navigating the industry were invaluable. The audience's participation with over 30 questions showed their interest and appreciation for the panelists’ broad experiences. The session ended with actionable takeaways everyone could bring back to their workplaces.”

Summit participants praised the transparency of the speakers and their willingness to share their personal experiences.

Jen Pelton, HR Coordinator at Armstrong Lumber, attended the event and noted, “With a focus on moving the needle and encouraging all of us in industry to concentrate on providing opportunity for underrepresented communities, this year’s Women in Forestry Virtual Summit was the most engaging forum I have been to. As a recruiter in the Okanagan, I see first-hand how few women are applying to industry roles. The takeaways and diversity of representation on the panels was encouraging and insightful.”

Recordings from other sessions held during the forum are available here: Women in Forestry Virtual Summit webpage.
